Pedro Agramunt, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), will take part in the 46th Plenary Session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA-CIS) in Saint Petersburg on 27 March 2017.

The next day, he will participate in a parliamentary conference on combating international terrorism, co-organised by the IPA-CIS and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. Topics to be covered at the conference include “international co-operation in the field of security and countering terrorism”, “the humanitarian aspects of counter-terrorism activity” and “the economic and social foundations of the international security framework”.

On the fringe of these events, the President is due to participate in a joint meeting of the ad hoc Sub-Committee of the PACE Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy and the IPA-CIS Permanent Commission on Political Issues and International Co-operation, as well as to hold high-level bilateral meetings.

At the joint meeting on 27 March, the PACE ad hoc sub-committee, headed by the Chairperson of the Political Affairs Committee Mogens Jensen (Denmark, SOC), will share with CIS colleagues the Assembly's views on combating terrorism while protecting Council of Europe standards and values. On 28 March, members of the ad hoc sub-committee will participate in the conference and make presentations in its working sessions.
