The Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination appointed Piet De Bruyn (Belgium, NR) as the new PACE General rapporteur on the rights of LGBTI people at its meeting in Strasbourg on 27 June 2017.
The General rapporteur on the rights of LGBTI people intervenes on behalf of the Assembly in the area of the protection and the promotion of the rights of LGBTI people, particularly on issues related to discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity and discrimination against intersex people.
Piet De Bruyn sets out his three priorities for the next year as General rapporteur on the rights of LGBTI people as being to draw attention to the situation of LGBTI people in Council of Europe member States, build bridges between LGBTI people and the institutions of the Council of Europe, and raise awareness about the situation and rights of intersex people.
