Ukraine monitors pinpoint changes needed following Kyiv fact-finding visit

Ongoing developments in combating corruption in Ukraine, as well as the political situation in the country ahead of Presidential and parliamentary elections this year were the main focus of a recent visit to Ukraine by PACE’s monitoring co-rapporteurs.

In an information note declassified this week, Dzhema Grozdanova (Bulgaria, EPP/CD) and Alfred Heer (Switzerland, ALDE) pointed out that preparations for forthcoming elections had “resulted in a slowdown of the different reform process in the country”.

Following a detailed analysis of the current situation, they set out a number of recommendations in the areas of fighting corruption, media freedom, fair elections and the administration of justice.
