Adolescents should participate in decisions about relevant health policies “for meeting their needs and developing efficient health systems”, the Parliamentary Assembly, meeting in Paris at Standing Committee level, said today.
Adopting a resolution, based on the report prepared by Doreen E. Massey (United Kingdom, SOC), the parliamentarians proposed that health services promote the need for a focus on adolescent health through funding for services and advocacy. Services for young people should be “accessible, free, inclusive, timely, welcoming, confidential and non-punitive”, and include sufficient high quality staff trained to advise and support adolescents who need help.
European governments should encourage “further research into the needs of adolescents”, the Assembly said.
