President proposes new ways that parliamentarians can work with GRECO to fight corruption

PACE President Liliane Maury Pasquier has hailed the work of GRECO – the Council of Europe’s anti-corruption body – and suggested fresh ways that the Assembly and GRECO could work together in the future.

Speaking at a special high-level conference to mark the 20th anniversary of GRECO, which currently brings together 49 States, the President pointed out that its work helped to give citizens confidence in those who govern them. By treating every State on an equal footing, it had shaped improved anti-corruption standards in its 20 years of existence, she added.

The President suggested a number of ways to work closely with GRECO, including by asking national parliaments to hold national debates on the reports of GRECO and to disseminate its recommendations.
