French student team wins Europe Prize trophy design competition

A three-strong team of students from the Strate Design School in Sèvres (France) has won the Assembly’s competition to design a new trophy for the Europe Prize, which honours towns and cities for their commitment to the European ideal.

The trophy – a stylised city skyline surmounted by the twelve stars of Europe – was chosen from among dozens of entries submitted by design and architecture students from all over Europe.

The winning team – Antoine Beurrier, Martin Dellinger and Xu Yang – was presented with a cheque for 1,500 euros and three graphic tablets at a prize ceremony in Strasbourg this week.

Runner-up teams from the Royal College of Art in London (United Kingdom) and from the State Academy of Design and Fine Arts in Kharkiv (Ukraine) also took part.

Created in 1955, the Europe Prize is awarded each year to a town or city in one of the Council of Europe’s 47 member states which has excelled in promoting the European ideal and values.

The new trophy, which replaces the original trophy in use since the 1950s, will travel from city to city each year.
