Inese Lībiņa-Egnere (Latvia, EPP/CD) and Pierre-Alain Fridez (Switzerland, SOC), co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the monitoring of obligations and commitments by the Republic of Moldova, will make a fact-finding visit to the country from 13 to 15 October 2021.
Discussions will mainly focus on the functioning of democratic institutions after the July 2021 elections; measures taken and future plans, especially in the field of justice and fight against corruption; and on the human rights’ situation in the Transnistrian Region of the Republic of Moldova and the conflict settlement process.
In Chisinau, Ms Lībiņa-Egnere and Mr Fridez are due to meet, in particular, the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the Parliament, the Deputy Prime Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the Deputy Prime Minister for the Reintegration, as well as the Ministers of Justice and Health.
In addition, talks are scheduled with parliamentary committees, the Moldovan delegation to the PACE, and leaders and members of the political factions in parliament. The co-rapporteurs are also due to meet representatives of the judicial authorities, the diplomatic community and NGOs.
The rapporteurs also intend to visit Tiraspol where they will hold working meetings, including with representatives of civil society. They are also due to visit a Latin-script school.
