PACE to observe the presidential and parliamentary elections in Türkiye

A 33-member delegation of members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), led by Frank Schwabe (Germany, SOC), will be in Türkiye from 12 to 15 May 2023 to observe the presidential and parliamentary elections on 14 May, alongside other international observers from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and ODIHR.

In Ankara they are due to meet the presidential candidates and the leaders of the parliamentary parties competing in the election, the heads of the Supreme Electoral Council and Radio and Television Supreme Council, and journalists and civil society representatives, before observing the voting on polling day.

A member of the Venice Commission – the Council of Europe's group of independent legal experts – will provide legal support during the visit. A PACE “pre-electoral” delegation which visited the country from 12-13 April issued this statement at the end of its visit.

The observers will deliver their preliminary conclusions at a joint press conference in Ankara on Monday 15 May at 3 p.m. (Tulipia Ballrom I, Sheraton Ankara Hotel & Convention Center, Noktali Sokak, Kavaklidere, Ankara) It will be broadcast live on this website
