Georgia’s law on the 'Transparency of Foreign Influence' should take account of Council of Europe expert legal opinion, say PACE rapporteurs

Tblissi, Georgia - Parliament

The PACE monitoring co-rapporteurs for Georgia, Claude Kern (France, ALDE) and Edite Estrela (Portugal, SOC), have called on the Georgian Parliament to ensure that any recommendations made by the Venice Commission concerning the draft law on the “Transparency of Foreign Influence” are taken into account during the adoption procedure.

An urgent opinion on the draft law was requested by the President of the Assembly, Theodoros Rousopoulos, and should be available on 21 May 2024.

"We urge Georgian parliamentarians not to complete the second reading of the draft law before considering this opinion,” the co-rapporteurs said.
