05/12/2024 Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development
As part of the “Parliamentary Action for Children's Rights 2024-2027” project, the PACE Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development is organising two events in Rome on 9 and 10 December 2024.
On 9 December in Rome, the Committee is organising a seminar in collaboration with the Italian Parliament on protecting children from online violence, to be held in the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament. The overall aim of this seminar is to improve national monitoring of the various measures recommended by Resolution 2547(2024) on “Protecting children from online violence”, adopted in April 2024. It will also be an opportunity to take stock of existing good practice in this area at international and national level.
The seminar will be attended by PACE members, as well as members and officials from both chambers of the Italian Parliament. National and international experts, NGO representatives as well as children and young people will contribute to the discussion.
On 10 December, the seminar will be followed by a children's consultation workshop on age-appropriate comprehensive sexuality education, to be held at the Office of the Italian Authority for Children and Adolescents. Seventeen Italian and Irish children and young people aged between 14 and 19 will have the opportunity to make their voices heard on the subject and thus contribute to the process of drafting a recommendation of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on age-appropriate comprehensive sexuality education. They will be accompanied by Joseph O'Reilly (Ireland, EPP/CD), PACE rapporteur on online violence against children, and Elena Bonetti (Italy, ALDE), PACE General Rapporteur on child participation.
These two events are part of the Council of Europe's activities to mark the Day for the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse (18 November).
The seminar will be broadcast live via this link.
