The Assembly, referring to its Recommendation 1209 (1993) on nuclear power plants in central and eastern Europe, instructs its Committee on Science and Technology to consider in a long-term perspective the whole energy situation in Europe and particularly in central and eastern Europe, in order to secure a sound and sustainable economic growth ; various energy sources should be considered and particular attention should be paid to safety, the health of peoples and the environment.
