The Assembly,

Paying tribute to UNESCO for the action it has taken to save the monuments of Nubia which, as a result of the construction of the Aswan Dam, are doomed to be covered by the waters of the Nile ;

Considering that these monuments constitute one of the great treasures of humanity's cultural heritage ;

Believing that in UNESCO's action a special responsibility devolves on member countries of the Council of Europe,

Recommends that the Committee of Ministers should, in accordance with Article 15 (b) of the Statute, recommend that member Governments should give all possible support to UNESCO's international campaign to save the monuments of Nubia.
