We, the undersigned, declare the following:

We condemn the brutal suppression of people in Iran. In 2023, 864 prisoners, including political prisoners, were executed. In the past four decades, tens of thousands of political prisoners have been executed. In 1988 alone, 30 000 political prisoners, 90% of whom were from opposition PMOI, were massacred. In the 2022 protests, when people rejected any form of dictatorship, religious and monarchic, the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) killed 750 people. According to a UN Special Rapporteur, "verified videos show security forces deliberately shooting unarmed protesters from a short distance."

This regime has proved to be irreformable. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) recognises "as a last resort", "rebellion against tyranny and oppression". Iran's regime is also the main source of terrorism and warmongering, including in the current war in the Middle East and the Red Sea. We join 3 600 parliamentarians and 125 former world leaders in supporting the 10-point plan of the National Council of Resistance of Iran President Maryam Rajavi for a secular democratic republic, based on free elections, gender equality, and coexistence.

We call for:

  • holding regime leaders accountable for killing political prisoners and demonstrators;
  • recognising the right of the Iranian people and resistance to fight for their freedom against the regime and the IRGC in accordance with the UDHR;
  • blacklisting the IRGC as a terrorist entity.
