The Assembly

Having noted, however, that in Austria and in other European countries there still remain a considerable number of Hungarian refugees wanting to migrate;

Having noted that, up to 28th February 1957, 18,300 Hungarian refugees have arrived in Yugoslavia;

Considering that this problem can only be solved by the permanent resettlement of these refugees in countries willing to receive them,

Recommends to the Committee of Ministers to invite Member Governments :

1 to take into consideration within the framework of the assistance they are ready to give to Hungarian refugees, the problem of those refugees who are in Yugoslavia;
2 to make the necessary contacts with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and with the Intergovernmental Committee for European Migration in order to facilitate the permanent resettlement of all of the Hungarian refugees who still are in Austria, in Yugoslavia or in other European countries.
