21/11/2025 Standing Committee
The PACE Standing Committee, meeting in Chisinau today, has proposed a set of measures to prevent and combat gender discrimination and gender-based violence in healthcare, medical research and clinical trials.
According to PACE, access to healthcare remains unequal and gender discrimination in health is prevalent across European countries. It deplores the existence of specific discrimination against LGBTI persons in healthcare settings. The resolution adopted unanimously, on the basis of the report by Camilla Fabricius (Denmark, SOC), underlines that such a discrimination “leads to misdiagnosis and delays in treatment”.
The adopted text calls on member states, in particular, to “mainstream gender in health policies”. States should also “draft and fund national action plans for women's health, with a focus on preventing gender discrimination in healthcare” and on LGBTI health strategies. In addition, PACE called on states to “ensure the accessibility, quality and adequate funding of sexual and reproductive health services”.
