15/10/2026 European Conference of Presidents of Parliament
Speakers of Parliament from across Europe and beyond taking part in a major parliamentary summit in Rome have been invited to write “a letter to your future self” containing one idea from the conference to take back to their home parliament.
Participants in the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament taking place in the Italian capital will be asked to set down the answers to three questions: What moment in Rome stayed with me? What idea do I want to bring home? What one step will I have taken by the time this letter reaches me?
Remaining private, these letters will be sealed and sent back to each Speaker in a few weeks, to ensure that the impetus of the conference continues and that “Rome does not end in Rome”.
Presenting the idea on the opening day of the conference, PACE President Petra Bayr pointed out that while every conference produces good ideas, “few of them survive the journey back home”.
She added: “Five minutes of writing. One idea kept alive. Imagine one such idea, put into practice in every parliament in this room. That is how Rome continues.”
