Strasbourg, 14.05.2008 – A parliamentary colloquy on “Domestic violence against women: prevention as the key to action” is to be held on Thursday 15 May from 9 am to 1 pm at the French National Assembly (33, rue Saint Dominique, Paris 7, 3rd floor).
The colloquy, organised by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), will be opened by Jean-Claude Mignon (France, EPP/CD) and José Mendes Bota (Portugal, EPP/CD. Participants will include:
- Rama Yade, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Human Rights,
- Valérie Létard, Secretary of State for Solidarity,
- Gisèle Gautier, Chair of the Senate Delegation for Women’s Rights and Equal Opportunities,
- Marie-Jo Zimmermann, Chair of the National Assembly Delegation for Women’s Rights and Equal Opportunities
- Maud de Boer-Buquicchio, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
Debate will focus on the prevention of violence against women and on support facilities and measures for the victims. The participants are also expected to discuss the declaration adopted in Vienna at the end of April proposing the drawing up of a Council of Europe framework convention to combat violence against women.
