Addressing the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Astana (Kazakhstan), former PACE President Mevlüt Cavusoglu today renewed PACE’s recent call for the establishment of a stable platform for dialogue between the Council of Europe, the religious faiths and the main humanist organisations in order to promote a partnership for democracy and human rights.
“We are just at the very beginning of a long process of discussion and negotiation. We do not have a ready-made model for such a platform. Rather, we want to build it, brick by brick, together with you – the leaders of world and traditional religions,” Mr Cavusoglu said.
The former PACE President welcomed the promotion of the religious dimension of intercultural dialogue as one of the priorities of the Albanian Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which started last week, and which offers "an excellent opportunity to ensure continuity in the Council of Europe’s work in this field".
