Strasbourg, 21.02.2013 – In the context of his official visit to Luxembourg, PACE President Jean-Claude Mignon, held an exchange of views with Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker on 19 February 2013. The discussion mainly concerned the current political situation and the contribution that parliamentary diplomacy can make to the solution of frozen conflicts.
On 20 February he had an audience with His Royal Highness the Grand Duke.
The subjects addressed during his official visit included the role of national parliaments in implementing the judgments handed down by the European Court of Human Rights, the reform of the Court, the EU’s accession to the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), and Luxembourg’s ratification of certain Council of Europe treaties. The reform of the Council of Europe and relations between the Council of Europe and the European Union were also discussed during these meetings.
During his visit, Jean-Claude Mignon also met the President of the Chamber of Deputies, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Justice, the members of the Committee on Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Cooperation and Immigration, and the Luxembourg delegation to PACE, the President of the Court of European Justice and the Ombudsperson.
