The co-rapporteurs for the monitoring of Ukraine by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Mailis Reps (Estonia, ALDE) and Marietta de Pourbaix-Lundin (Sweden, EPP/CD), have called on the Ukrainian authorities to show restraint and to refrain from any violence against peaceful protesters. At the same time, they called on protesters to refrain from any provocations and to fully respect the rules of democratic protest.
“We urge the authorities to allow the Ukrainian people to express their opinions and to protest unimpeded. In this respect we expect that both authorities and protesters will fully abide by the rules and principles of a democratic society. We call on both to begin a dialogue to resolve this situation peacefully and democratically,” said the two co-rapporteurs.
