The committee welcomes Turkish authorities’ proposal to become a major contributor to Council of Europe budget
PACE’s Institutional Affairs Committee has welcomed the decision of the Turkish authorities to “reinforce the Council of Europe” by proposing to become a major contributor in 2016. In a draft resolution based on a report by Rudy Salles (France EPP/CD) on the expenditure of PACE, the committee urged member states to accept this proposal without reducing the amount of their own contributions to the Council of Europe budget.
The committee also noted the proposal to increase the number of seats allocated to Turkish parliamentarians in the Assembly in order to remedy its under-representation in terms of population, but pointed out that adopting Turkish as a working language could only be funded with additional financial resources.
