“Across the world, transgender persons face violence, discrimination, stigma and marginalisation. Today we honour the memory and lives of transgender persons who are victims of transphobic crimes,” said Béatrice Fresko-Rolfo (Monaco, ALDE), General Rapporteur on the rights of LGBTI people, on the occasion of the Transgender Day of Remembrance (20 November 2024).

“We can honour them and show our support by taking concrete measures to protect persons at risk and prevent transphobic violence. This includes establishing safe reporting mechanisms and supporting services in place that allow transgender persons to seek help without fear of stigma or reprisal,” she added.

“Parliamentarians should commit to building a future where transgender persons have the legal protection and support they need to live free from fear, discrimination and violence. Combating fake news and deconstructing stereotypes are challenges that we must address. We can work towards a more inclusive and secure Europe for all,” she concluded.
