21/08/2025 Prizes
The Selection Panel of the Václav Havel Human Rights Prize will meet on Tuesday 26 August in Prague to determine a shortlist of three nominees from among the candidatures received. This shortlist – three individuals or organisations judged to have undertaken outstanding action in defence of human rights – is to be announced on the same day.
The nominees will be invited to attend a ceremony in Strasbourg at the opening of the autumn plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on Monday 29 September, when the 2025 prizewinner is due to be announced.
An event will also be organised in Prague in honour of the 2025 laureate in October.
The Václav Havel Human Rights Prize, created in 2013, is awarded each year by the PACE, in partnership with the Václav Havel Library and the Charta 77 Foundation, and the support of the Czech Government. The Prize consists of a sum of €60 000, a trophy and a diploma.
