Thank you very much, Madam President.

First of all, I would like to thank all the rapporteurs for these reports that we have heard today. One thing is good: that our work is picking up momentum again, that we are going on so many election observation missions again and Albania – I was in Albania with Mr Aleksander POCIEJ – surprised us in that it was really calm, lively after all the problems that existed before the proposals of the Venice Commission were adopted. As far as electoral reform is concerned, a free campaign, but we recommended that the accusation of vote-buying and the self-censorship of the media should be looked at even more closely.

During the period covered by the rapporteur – Ms Petra BAYR herself pointed it out – there were also the fierce military clashes with the many many deaths between Israel and Palestine. What we must be particularly concerned about is the widespread anti-Semitism, which we have had to take note of in Europe and against which we must also take action. On the one hand, there are the Covid-19 deniers, some of whom are running around with yellow stars, and, on the other, there are groups who believe that they can use the conflict between Israel and Palestine to carry out anti-Semitic actions here in Europe. We must stand up to them.

Mr Daniel HÖLTGEN, Special Representative of the Council of Europe on Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia, has been very critical of Austria, saying that this Islam map creates a general suspicion of Islam and could serve anti-Muslim resentment. Unfortunately, this is what happened.

I would also like to thank Mr Pierre-Alain FRIDEZ very much for his fact-finding mission to the Greek Islands. I think that was very important.

The election in Kosovo is also very welcome. It is a huge new opportunity for that country, and we now have a new delegation here with us.

In Armenia the election was held yesterday, in Moldova we have already been with a pre-electoral mission. That also looks good and I think here again we are coming back to areas where you can see where things are going.

As the General Rapporteur for Media Freedom, I want to thank again everyone who has been active here on Belarus so that we don't stop fighting for the release of Roman Protashevich and his girlfriend Sofia Sapega.

Tout d'abord, je voudrais remercier tous les rapporteurs pour ces rapports que nous avons entendus aujourd'hui. L'Albanie - j'étais en Albanie avec M. Aleksander POCIEJ - nous a surpris en ce qu'elle était vraiment calme, vivante après tous les problèmes qui existaient auparavant, les propositions de la Commission de Venise ont été adoptées, en ce qui concerne la réforme électorale, une campagne libre, mais nous avons recommandé que l'accusation d'achat de votes et l'autocensure des médias soient examinées de plus près.

Au cours de la période couverte par le rapporteur - Mme Petra BAYR l'a elle-même souligné - il y a eu aussi les violents affrontements militaires qui ont fait de nombreux morts entre Israël et la Palestine. Ce qui doit nous préoccuper particulièrement, c'est l'antisémitisme généralisé, dont nous avons dû prendre acte en Europe et contre lequel nous devons également agir. D'une part, il y a les négationnistes de la covid-19, dont certains se promènent avec des étoiles jaunes, et, d'autre part, il y a des groupes qui pensent pouvoir utiliser le conflit entre Israël et la Palestine pour mener des actions antisémites ici en Europe. Nous devons leur tenir tête.

M. Daniel HÖLTGEN, représentant spécial du Conseil de l'Europe sur l'antisémitisme et l'islamophobie, a été très critique à l'égard de l'Autriche, affirmant que cette carte de l'Islam crée une suspicion générale à l'égard de l'Islam et pourrait servir le ressentiment anti-musulman - malheureusement, c'est ce qui s'est passé.

Je tiens également à remercier chaleureusement M. Pierre-Alain FRIDEZ pour sa mission d'enquête dans les îles grecques. Je pense que c'était très important.

L'élection au Kosovo est également la bienvenue ; c'est une nouvelle opportunité énorme pour ce pays et nous avons maintenant une nouvelle délégation avec nous.

En Arménie, l'élection a eu lieu hier, en Moldavie, nous avons déjà effectué une mission préélectorale, qui s'annonce également bonne et je pense qu'ici encore, nous revenons à des régions où l'on peut voir où les choses vont.

En tant que rapporteur général pour la liberté des médias, je tiens à remercier une nouvelle fois tous ceux qui ont été actifs ici sur le Bélarus afin que nous ne cessions pas de nous battre pour la libération de Roman Protashevich et de sa petite amie Sofia Sapega.

zuerst möchte ich allen Berichterstattern und Berichterstatterinnen bedanken für diese Berichte, die wir heute gehört haben. Etwas ist gut; dass unsere Arbeit wieder Schwung aufnimmt, dass wir wieder in so vielen Wahlbeobachtungs-Missionen gehen und Albanien – ich war mit Mr Aleksander POCIEJ in Albanien, hat uns insofern überrascht, indem es wirklich nach all den Problemen, die es vorher gab, ruhig, lebendig war, die Vorschläge der Venice Commission angenommen wurden, was die Wahlrechtsreform betrifft, eine freie Kampagne, wir haben aber empfohlen, dass man den Vorwurf des Stimmenkaufs und die Selbstzensur der Medien noch genauer anschaut.

In dem Zeitraum der Berichterstatterin – Ms Petra BAYR hat es selbst ausgeführt – lagen auch die heftigen militärischen Auseinandersetzungen mit den vielen vielen Toten zwischen Israel und Palästina. Was uns besonders Sorgen bereiten muss, ist der verbreitete Antisemitismus, wie wir ihn in Europa zur Kenntnis nehmen mussten und wir dagegen auch tätig werden müssen. Das sind einerseits die Corona-Leugner, die ja zum Teil mit den gelben Sternen herumrennen, zum anderen aber auch Gruppen, die glauben, sie können den Konflikt zwischen Israel und Palästina zu antisemitischen Aktionen hier in Europa nutzen. Dem müssen wir entschieden gegentreten.

Mr. Daniel HÖLTGEN, Sonderbeauftragter des Europarats für Antisemitismus und Islamophobie, hat sich gegenüber Österreich sehr kritisch ausgedrückt, indem er gesagt hat, diese Islam-Landkarte erzeugt einen Generalverdacht gegenüber Islam und könnte antimuslimische Ressentiments bedienen – so ist es leider auch eingetreten.

Ich möchte mich bei Mr. Pierre-Alain FRIDEZ auch sehr herzlich bedanken für seine Fact Finding Mission auf den griechischen Inseln. Das war glaube ich sehr wichtig.

Sehr begrüßenswert ist auch die Wahl im Kosovo, es ist eine riesengroße neue Chance für dieses Land und wir haben ja auch jetzt eine neue Delegation hier bei uns.

In Armenien ist gestern die Wahl gewesen, in Moldawien waren wir bereits mit einer Pre-Electoral Mission, auch das sieht gut aus und ich denke, hier kommen wir wiederum in Bereiche zurück, in denen man sieht, wo es losgeht.

Als General Rapporteur für Medienfreiheit möchte ich noch einmal allen danken, die sich hier in der Sache Belarus aktiv gezeigt haben, sodass wir nicht aufhören, für die Freilassung von Roman Protassewitsch und seiner Freundin Sofia Sapega zu kämpfen.
