The Assembly,

1. Affirming its desire to develop its role as a forum for the world's parliamentary democracies on the lines of its President's recent proposals ;
2. Welcoming the desire expressed by the Committee of Ministers to intensify political discussions in the Council of Europe ;
3. Recalling the success of the Panel on relations between Western Europe and the United States of America (29-30 June 1981), sponsored by the Secretary General, and of the parliamentary debate in autumn 1981 which drew the political lessons from it ;
4. Emphasising the great interest expressed on various occasions by the Japanese governmental and parliamentary authorities in the development of their relations with Western Europe in general and the Council of Europe in particular ;
5. Proposing to hold a debate on Euro-Japanese relations during the second part of the 34th Session,
6. Instructs the Secretary General to organise, in association with its committees directly concerned, a select colloquy of politicians and experts on relations between Western Europe and Japan.
