The Assembly,

Recalling its Resolution 176, in which it "welcomed the Freedom from Hunger Campaign launched by the FAO as a means of alerting public opinion on the urgency of the problem of under-nourishment" and gave its full endorsement to this initiative ;

Having studied the information communicated to it by the Committee of Ministers on the action taken in member States in support of the Campaign (Doc. 1359), together with the further information received from its Committee on Agriculture about the aims and objects of the Campaign and about the progress made in putting it into effect ;

Renewing its support for this important project which, provided it is efficiently administered, will certainly be of lasting benefit to the developing countries in combating hunger and malnutrition through the higher standard of living resulting from more efficient agriculture and an improved general economy,

1. Recommends that the Committee of Ministers urge member Governments to support the Campaign actively with financial help, assistance to national committees and non-governmental organisations, the granting of facilities for publicity campaigns in its support and instructions to the competent Government departments to help in this work ;
2. Resolves to request individual Representatives to use their influence to support the Campaign by interventions in their national Parliaments and by participation in the work of national committees and in publicity campaigns in their respective countries ;
3. 3. Instructs its Permanent Working Party on relations with national Parliaments to take all measures likely to stimulate interest in and support for the Campaign in the national Parliaments of member States and instructs the Committee on Agriculture to take what action it considers appropriate.
