The Assembly,

Having regard to its Resolution 74 (1955) concerning the foundation of a European Prize, under the auspices of the FVS Foundation, to be awarded for an outstanding work in science, literature, administration or journalism, likely to promote European unity;

Considering that this Prize has, for five years, been placed at the disposal of the Assembly of the Council of Europe and formally presented by its President :

in 1956 to Rev. Father Jean du Rivau, Director of the International Liaison and Documentation Bureau at Cologne;
in 1957 to Mrs. Anna Kethly, for Hungarian student refugees;
in 1958 to Professor Georg Eckert, Director of the International Institute for School Textbooks at Brunswick;
in 1959 to Mr. Gerolamo Bassani, Director of the Institute of International Political Studies at Milan;
in 1960 to H.R.H. the Prince of the Netherlands, President of the European Cultural Foundation; Considering that Mr. Alfred Toepfer has brought into existence the FVS Foundation which has awarded the prize, Resolves to pay tribute and express its gratitude to Mr. Alfred Toepfer for his generosity and for the services he has rendered to the European cause.
