The Assembly,

1. Having examined the 14th report on the activities of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the report of its Committee on Population and Refugees in reply thereto ;
2. Having listened with interest to the High Commissioner's statement ;
3. Noting with satisfaction the results obtained from the last major programme of aid to the "old" European refugees which received its support (Recommendation 329) and that of the Committee of Ministers (Resolution (62) 40) ;
4. Considering the number and complexity of the new problems confronting the High Commissioner outside Europe, particularly in the developing areas ;
5. Notes that the High Commissioner has made progress in carrying out his basic mission of granting international protection and material aid to the various groups of refugees throughout the world ;
6. Pays tribute to the practical way in which the High Commissioner is tackling the new refugee problems with which his organisation increasingly has to deal ;
7. Appreciates the fact that European refugees who are still unsettled will continue to receive adequate assistance ;
8. Is following with particular attention the development of the refugee situation in Africa and Asia and again assures the High Commissioner of its support for his humanitarian work.
