The Assembly,

1. Deeply moved by the fact that the civil war in Nigeria inflicted terrible losses on the population, and that a very large number of people are still in acute distress ;
2. Noting that hundreds of thousands of Nigerians are at present homeless ;
3. Anxious that all possible relief should continue to be granted to persons in need with the agreement of the Nigerian Government, in accordance with the proposals contained in its Recommendation 598 (1970),
4. Expresses the hope that the Nigerian Government and the Organisation of African Unity will take all necessary steps to bring about a lasting peace based on respect for human rights ;
5. Urges its members to make any suitable approach to their governments and to take any necessary steps in their parliaments to ensure speedy implementation of the measures stated above and in Recommendation 598 (1970).
