European computer industry

Resolution 444 (1970)

Author(s):
Parliamentary Assembly
Origin
Assembly debate on 20 April 1970 (3rd Sitting) (see Doc. 2750, report of the Committee on Science and Technology). Text adopted by the Assembly on 20 April 1970 (3rd Sitting).

The Assembly,

1. Welcoming with satisfaction that the Committee on Science and Technology has started to examine the problems of the European computer industry ;
2. Convinced that a coherent and uniform European computer policy worked out in common by European governments and through co-operation agreements between European computer industries would contribute significantly to Europe's technological capacity ;
3. Regretting that this industry, for reasons which embrace compatibility, systems and cost, has not so far been able to make a proposal to the European Space Research Organisation (ESRO) for its computer installations which all the governments concerned could willingly accept to support,
4. Resolves :
a to urge its Committee on Science and Technology to submit a report on the European computer industry to a forthcoming session of the Assembly ;
b to invite the European computer industry to make, in the meantime, a special effort to organise itself in such a way as to be able to make, before the 3rd European Space Conference to be held in the summer of 1970, a proposal to ESRO for its computer installations which will meet ESRO's technical requirements and cost specifications.
