Reply to the 7th progress report (1975) of the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies

The Assembly,
1. Having taken note of the 7th report (1975) on the activities of the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (
Doc. 3892), and of the report in reply prepared by its Committee on Agriculture (
Doc. 3986) ;
2. Welcoming the expansion of the Centre's activities in 1975 in the sphere of international co-operation and development, and in particular its relations with Mediterranean non-member countries ;
3. Noting the satisfactory development of the activities of the three institutes in Bari, Montpellier and Saragossa ;
4. Recalling the importance it attaches to the meetings of the Advisory Board and the role its representative has to play in this body ;
5. Conscious that the Council of Europe and OECD have a special duty to safeguard the future prospects of the Centre,
6. Deplores the fact that Options méditerranéennes, the journal of the Centre, is no longer published, and expresses its concern over the effects this will have on the image and the publicity of the Centre ;
7. Appeals to all those concerned, and in particular to the governments of member states of the Centre, to those who have concluded association agreements with it, as well as to all the international organisations which have established close working contacts with the Centre, to explore every possibility of raising the funds necessary to revive the journal, which the Assembly considers to be of great value for all those interested in Mediterranean problems ;
8. Encourages the efforts made by the Secretariat of the Centre to promote its external relations by establishing links with all Mediterranean countries ;
9. Invites the Centre to provide, in its next report, full details on the budgetary situation of the Secretariat and the institutes, thus enabling the Assembly to assess more clearly the financial development of the Centre as a whole ;
10. Resolves to propose that the next special session of the OECD/Council of Europe Liaison Committees devoted to agricultural questions should be focused on the Centre's activities.
