1. The Committee of Ministers assures the
Honourable Parliamentarian of its continued vigilance and commitment
to improving the situation of Roma communities across Europe.
2. The Committee of Ministers would point out that Serbia is
a party to the Framework Convention for the Protection of National
Minorities, as well as a party to the European Charter for Regional
or Minority Languages. In this respect, the implementation of its
obligations and commitments are under regular periodical review.
Such review takes place in constant and close co-operation with
the Council of Europe’s relevant bodies, including the Commissioner
for Human Rights.
3. The Committee of Ministers has been informed by the Serbian
authorities of the gravity of the health and safety issues which
led to the decision to ensure the relocation of the informal settlement
of Belvil, and of the initiatives under way, in consultation with
the concerned inhabitants, with a view to resolving the situation promptly.
