The current situation of the human rights of gays, transsexuals and bisexuals in the Russian Federation gives cause for concern. The media are constantly providing information about indiscriminate attacks and aggressions towards this group.
A deep and serious study is needed about the compliance by the Russian Federation with the recommendations adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly regarding not only non-discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity, but also the freedom of assembly and speech of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
Furthermore, it is necessary to analyse the Act against homosexual propaganda passed by the Russian Duma in view of the possible violation of human rights it may imply. The Assembly should therefore start an investigation and a report, specifically concerning the current discrimination of LGBT people in Russia.
