In the draft resolution, after paragraph 18.8, insert the following paragraph:
"ensure that their national asylum systems do not provide a safe haven for perpetrators of war crimes, including former Russian military personnel seeking political asylum;"
Explanatory note
Former Russian military (e.g. Pavel Filatyev) get political asylum in Europe, write books, and give interviews on their war crimes involvement in Ukraine instead of facing trial. Principles of justice mustn’t be compromised and individuals suspected of committing war crimes must be held accountable.
