The Assembly,

1. Recognising the important role played by independent associations - local, national and international - in developing public appreciation of the architectural heritage and in stimulating action to preserve it ;
2. Welcoming the decision to convene a European Architectural Heritage Congress in Brussels in March 1980, to be organised by Europa Nostra under the joint auspices of the Commission of the European Communities and the Council of Europe ;
3. Drawing attention to the Assembly's Recommendation 880 (1979), and the report on the situation of the architectural heritage in Europe, presented to the Assembly by the Committee of Ministers (Doc. 4300),
4. Invites the European Architectural Heritage Congress in Brussels to study the proposals contained in the Assembly's Recommendation 880 (1979), and to consider ways of implementing them ;
5. Urges independent associations, in all member states :
a to intensify their efforts to develop a greater appreciation by the public of the importance of preserving the architectural heritage ;
b to remain constantly on the alert for any action or absence of action, which could adversely affect the architectural heritage, and to call immediate attention to the matter ;
c to show the importance which the public attaches to the conservation of the architectural heritage, and thereby encourage the authorities, at all levels, to use to the full the powers which they possess for this purpose ;
d to endeavour to establish contacts and cooperation with those concerned with this subject in all European countries and elsewhere in the world.
