This written declaration does not reflect the position of the Assembly; only of those members that have signed it. It will not be considered further by the Assembly.
We, the undersigned, declare the following:
On 18 May 2024, Ukraine commemorates victims of 1944 deportation
of the Crimean Tatars. Within three days, around 200 000 Crimean
Tatars, the entire nation, were deported and at least 46% died on
their way to Central Asia and during the first few years of exile.
We remember the victims of this genocide committed 80 years
ago and pay due respect to the Crimean Tatars who have endured discrimination
in the Russian empire, the USSR, and nowadays – in the Russian Federation since
2014.
We condemn all human rights violations against the Crimean
Tatars aimed at depriving them of homeland, committed by both the
USSR and the Russian Federation and urge all partners to follow,
as well as to recognise the 1944 deportation of the Crimean Tatars
as genocide.
We call on the international community to increase diplomatic
pressure on the Russian Federation to make it stop grave violations
of human rights in Crimea, including persecutions of Crimean Tatars,
release all Kremlin prisoners and fulfill obligations as an occupying
power in accordance with international law.
Only through Ukraine's victory can the repressions against
the indigenous Crimean Tatar people be ended and respect for human
rights be restored.
