A five-member delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), led by Elisabetta Gardini (Italy, ECPA), will make a pre-electoral visit to Morocco from 31 August to 2 September to assess the election campaign and political climate prior to the parliamentary elections on 23 September.
In Rabat, the delegation is due to meet the Speakers of both Houses of Parliament, the Minister of the Interior and Director of the Election Department in charge of organising the elections, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, representatives of candidate parties and coalitions, as well as the Chairperson and members of the Moroccan delegation to PACE.
Meetings are also scheduled with the President of the National Council of Human Rights (CNDH) and the President of the Supreme Council of Audiovisual Communication (CSCA), as well as with representatives of the diplomatic community, civil society and the media.
The delegation is due to issue a statement at the end of the visit. A full delegation of 20 members will travel to Morocco to observe the elections on 23 September.
