Recommendations of the 2nd European Population Conference

The Assembly,

1. Referring to its Opinion No. 59 (1972) on the 2nd European Population Conference and to the report of its Committee on Population and Refugees ;
2. Anxious to ensure effective follow-up to the recommendations adopted by that conference, especially those concerning the economic and social implications of demographic trends in Europe,
3. Instructs the committees listed below to examine the recommendations, as indicated, and consider ways in which they may contribute to the application of the proposals contained in these texts :
Committee on Social and Health Questions : Recommendations Nos. 1, 2 and 9, on the ageing of the population in Europe and its social and economic implications, certain social and economic aspects of fertility trends in Europe, and the development and promotion of research on the demographic aspects of differential morbidity and mortality and their social and economic consequences ;
3.1.1 Committee on Economic Affairs and Development : Recommendations Nos. 1 and 2, on the ageing of the population in Europe and its social and economic implications, and certain social and economic aspects of fertility trends in Europe ;
3.1.2 Committee on Regional Planning and Local Authorities : Recommendation No. 1, on the ageing of the population in Europe and its social and economic implications ;
3.1.3 Committee on Culture and Education : Recommendation No. 8, on demographic teaching and research in Europe ;
3.1.4 Committee on Population and Refugees : Recommendations Nos. 4, 5 and 11, on certain demographic and social aspects of intra- European migration, the reintegration of migrant workers into their home country, and the harmonisation and synchronisation of population censuses in Europe.
