Parliamentary Assembly
Origin
Assembly debate on 18th May 1962 (7th Sitting) (see Doc. 1415, Report of the Committee on Agriculture). Text adopted by the Assembly on 18th May 1962 (7th Sitting).

The Assembly,

Considering its Recommendation 306, in which it expressed its support for the Freedom from Hunger Campaign of the FAO, and its Order No. 197 in which it instructed its Committee on Agriculture to make a study of the Surplus Food Utilisation Project which has been launched by the Director-General of the FAO and the late Secretary-General of the United Nations (now known as the "World Food Programme") ;

Having considered the report of its Committee on Agriculture (Doc. 1415) and Resolution No. 1/61 of the General Conference of the FAO ;

Noting that the President of the United States has already proposed to make a contribution of $40 million towards the initial target of $100 million and that certain other countries have pledged lesser sums ;

Expressing its satisfaction with this important initiative both on humanitarian and economic grounds,

Recommends that the Committee of Ministers should equally express its support for the World Food Programme and invite member Governments to contribute generously thereto.
