The Assembly,
1. Welcoming the success of the Second Symposium on the co-ordination of research concerning the legal systems of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, held in Strasbourg on 15 and 16 July 1971 ;
2. Desiring that support be given by the Council of Europe as well as by governments of member States to the proposals made in the final text of the symposium,
3. Recommends that the Committee of Ministers transmit to governments of member States the final text of the symposium together with the report of the Legal Affairs Committee to which it is appended (Doc. 3046), and in particular to invite governments :
a to include teaching on the legal systems of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe in university curricula;
b to attach greater importance, in cultural or other agreements concluded with Central and Eastern European States, to contacts between lawyers, for example by attendance at bilateral or multilateral symposia ;
c to give adequate financial support to the relevant research institutions in their own countries ;
d to encourage co-ordination of their activities at national and international level, with a view to the publication and translation of legal texts, including a collection of court decisions and arbitral awards for common use.
