The Assembly,
1. Noting the increase in research activities in member States of the Council of Europe concerning the legal systems of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe ;
2. Affirming its support for these activities ;
3. Considering the fact that no comprehensive measures have yet been taken in member States of the Council of Europe to co-ordinate research carried out in this domain ;
4. Noting that in some cases these activities overlap ;
5. Considering the desirability of co-ordinating research concerning the legal systems of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe in order to avoid duplication, notably in the translation of legal texts from rare languages,
6. Decides :
a to organise a meeting to which will be invited the directors of institutes, associations, and law faculties in the member States of the Council of Europe carrying out research concerning the legal systems of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe to enable them to gain an overall view of their activities and to co-ordinate them, to establish exchanges of information and documentation and, possibly, to agree on a division of labour ;
b to instruct its Legal Committee to take the necessary steps in order to prepare such a meeting and to report to it on the results of the meeting ;
c to request the Secretary General to render his assistance to the Assembly in the implementation of this Resolution.
