The Assembly,

1. Having regard to its Recommendation 535 (1968)on the promotion of modern language teaching in Europe ;
2. Considering that if action at the intergovernmental level is to be effective, it must be supplemented by action in the national parliaments ;
3. Considering that its members have an important part to play in the sphere of modern language teaching by encouraging close co-operation among education authorities, non-governmental organisations and certain sectors such as industry, trade and the foundations,
4. Decides :
a to launch a campaign in national parliaments to promote the teaching of modern languages in Europe in order to make all concerned more keenly aware of the problem ;
b to invite the national parliaments to designate one or more of their members to be responsible for co-operating in the implementation within their country of the CCC's intensified European programme in modern languages.
