The Assembly,

1. Having noted with interest the 2nd Memorandum presented by the Director of the Régional Office for Europe of the World Health Organisation (WHO) on the activities of WHO ;
2. Welcoming the initiatives of the Régional Office for Europe of WHO to set up long-term programmes in the fields of environmental protection, cardiovascular diseases, mental health, drug abuse and cancer ;
3. Attaching the greatest importance to WHO's programmes for the éducation and training of health personnel, hopes that the Regional Office for Europe of WHO will continue to make arrangements for people of developing countries to broaden their education in Europe, especially for post-graduate studies,
4. Welcomes the efforts undertaken by WHO to give objective advice on the use of computers in the public health services ;
5. Hopes that the Regional Office for Europe of WHO will recommend its member States to adopt certain common criteria in the field of health information with a view to obtaining data which are comparable on a European level ;
6. Stresses the importance of the preventive aspects of WHO's work for the improvement and protection of man's health, and hopes that the Council of Europe may be able to promote the development of preventive medicine programmes in its member States ;
7. Considers that in many instances action by the Council of Europe can contribute to securing the effective application of the recommendations and proposals made by WHO on medical and public health matters, and assures WHO of its desire to continue to collaborate with the organisation in appropriate technical fields and to support its work whenever possible.
