Permanent education in Europe

The Assembly,
1. Having regard to the report on permanent education in Europe by its Committee on Culture and Education ;
2. Considering that, if a system of permanent education is to be established in Europe, considerable efforts must first be made to approximate the educational systems of member States ;
3. Noting that there are already excellent reports on the state of education in each country ;
4. Considering that the growing access of women to professional and civic responsibilities gives new and heightened importance to the problem of education for both sexes ;
5. Believing that a comprehensive study should be made with a view to deducing the main principles for the reform of education in Europe ;
6. Stressing the need to encourage and promote educational research, particularly in the following three spheres :
a teaching methods ;
b pupil assessment ;
c mass media,
7. Instructs its Committee on Culture and Education to arrange a series of symposia on :
primary, secondary and technical education (basic education) ;
higher education and research ;
post-formal and recurrent education.
To these symposia would be invited persons with responsibility in educational matters.
