Assembly debate on 15 May 1972 (2nd Sitting) (see Doc. 3118, report of the Committee on European Non-Member Countries). Text adopted by the Assembly on 15 May 1972 (2nd Sitting).
The Assembly,
1. Recalling its previous resolutions, and in particular Resolution 496 (1971), on the situation in Czechoslovakia, which still hold good,
2. Notes the increasing number of arrests and imprisonments for political activities in that country ;
3. Deplores that the regime is still denying civic and human rights to the citizens of Czechoslovakia ;
4. Joins its protests with those already expressed in many quarters in Europe with the aim of bringing the Czechoslovak authorities to change their policy of continuing repression ;
5. Urges its members to spread information on the political persecutions going on in Czechoslovakia, and thus mobilise parliamentary and public opinion for the cause of the Czechoslovak people ;
6. Condemns that, contrary to the assurances given by the Czechoslovak party leaders, political trials are in fact taking place.
