Massacre in Hebron and its consequences for the peace process in the Middle East

1. The Assembly expresses its sympathy with the Palestinian people and in particular with the victims and their families.
2. The Assembly strongly condemns this act of terrorism. The current peace process, the progress of which has raised so much hope among Palestinians and Israelis alike, should not be endangered by extremists.
3. The Assembly urges the Israeli authorities, in co-operation with Palestinian representatives, to rapidly establish the facts and to take all necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such a tragedy, and demands that those responsible for this outrage be brought to justice.
4. The Assembly appeals to all parties in the peace process to resume their negotiations as soon as possible.
5. It urges the Jewish settlers and members of the extreme Islamic groups to end all violence and to commit themselves to the peaceful and democratic resolution of outstanding disputes.
6. The Assembly also condemns the bomb attack on a Maronite church near Beirut and extends its condolences to the victims, their families and the Lebanese people.
