The Assembly
Deplores that in the satellite coimtries of Central and Eastern Europe persons are still suffering persecution on account of their religious faith and beliefs ;
Expresses its indignation that human rights and liberties, albeit theoretically acknowledged in official protestations and declarations, have in practice been violated and denied ;
Assures the subject peoples from the Baltic to the Black Sea of its sorrow and concern over their continued sufferings, both spiritual and physical, affirms its deep feeling of solidarity and fellowship with these peoples and continues to look forward to the day when their liberties may be restored to them.
On 15th September, 1954, the question of religious persecution in Central and Eastern Europe was referred to the Special Committee to watch over the interests of European nations not represented in the Council of Europe.
The Special Committee gave consideration to this question on 15th September, 1954, and unanimously adopted the following draft Resolution which is submitted to the Assembly.
