29/01/2025 | 10:54:29 President,  First of all, I'd like to congratulate our colleague Ms Luz MARTINEZ SEIJO for a report that offers a broad range of possibilities that would allow us to create a sense of reconciliation with the past, to recognise who we currently are and to collectively make ourselves stronger for the future. Who could be against learning and understanding our past? Who could be against knowing, as José SARAMAGO has spoken about, the historic memory as collective conscience created as a... 21/06/2021 | 19:43:14 Thank you, Madam President. Three considerations. The first is that we cannot involve ourselves in open judicial procedures in member states. The Council of Europe does not have that function. The rapporteur himself said they committed crimes. What is being said here is that these are excessive sentences or penalties. What you cannot say at the same time is that they are... 21/06/2021 | 19:26:54 Thank you very much. Along the same lines – because it is one thing to debate the crime of rebellion or sedition and it's another to say people have been condemned for crimes that they didn't commit. That is not the case. People were convicted not for the actions themselves but for making use of funds that they were responsible for, for these illicit ends. I don't think we can have subjective evaluations of proceedings under criminal law. Also, if we are talking about subjective ideas, we are...
