PACE delegation makes pre-electoral visit to Hungary

A six-member delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), led by Pablo Hispan (Spain, EPP/CD), will make a pre-electoral visit to Hungary on 30-31 March to assess the election campaign and political climate prior to the parliamentary elections on 12 April.

In Budapest, the delegation is due to meet representatives of the executive branch (from Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Justice and the Interior), leaders and representatives of parliamentary groups, the leading contestants represented in the parliament and those not represented in the parliament, as well as the Hungarian delegation to PACE.

Meetings are also scheduled with the Head and Core Team of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission, the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights, the President of the National Election Office, the Chair of the National Election Commission, the President of the Curia of Hungary (the Supreme Court), as well as representatives of the diplomatic community, civil society and the media.

The delegation is due to issue a statement at the end of the visit. A full delegation of 32 members will travel to Hungary to observe the elections on 12 April.
