PACE network on the implementation of Strasbourg Court judgments holds its first meeting

Members begin with a focus on new laws in Romania to protect women against domestic violence

The newly established Parliamentary Network to Promote the Implementation of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights held its first meeting in Strasbourg on Tuesday 23 June, during the Assembly’s summer plenary session.

The network, launched in April, brings together parliamentarians from all of the member states to encourage governments to execute judgments and drive forward the legislative changes called for by Court rulings.

The first meeting focused on Romania’s new laws to address domestic violence and their link with the implementation of the Bălșan v. Romania group of judgments.

Senator Cynthia Păun, one of the initiators of the reforms, and Andreea Braga of the FILIA Centre shared practical insights on how political commitment, parliamentary action and civil society engagement can drive implementation.

Members also elected Adam Bodnar (Poland, EPP/CD) as Chair of the Network and Gökçe Gökçen (Türkiye, SOC) as Vice-Chair.
